The master here is a mix of take 7 (the first minute) recorded on Nov. 29, 1966 then the remainder of the song from take 26 completed in late December. The recordings were made over several days in late November-December 1966 and the two best versions were combined on this date. This newer stereo mix, once known as the German stereo mix, is now the standard CD stereo mix. It has better percussion sound than the older stereo mix and more stereo separation. The fade out is slightly longer so you can hear John saying "cranberry sauce" a second time (though the word sauce is missing as the sound deteriorates) whereas it is only heard once in the original stereo mix of 1966. This mix is also featured on the CD release of The Beatles 1967-1970. The liner notes in the booklet incorrectly states this is the original stereo mix of this track. |
